Hazel and Virgil Reed moved to Andrews, TX in June, 1934 and opened Reed Drug Store on North Main Street. Virgil was a charter member of the Andrews Lions Club; a member of Means Methodist Church; served on the first Andrews City Council; served on the School Board; was a member of the Rotary Club; and was the Administrator of Andrews County Hospital for nine years. Prior to his retirement in 1969, he was employed by Andrews County.

Hazel was active in the Means Methodist Church; was a Lifetime Member of the Women's Society of Christian Service; served on the Andrews School Advisory Council; and was a charter member of the Tuesday Bridge Club. She worked for seven years in the Fashion Shoppe, owned by Lucille and O. D. Huckabee on NW First Street, and continued with Gertrude Kinny when she purchased the business in 1975 and relocated to its present location on NW Ave A.

Hazel and Virgil were in the Drug Store business for 27 years. There were many, long, cold winter nights spent in the company of Humble Oil Company roughnecks, office personnel, and TrippleHorn Oil employees, in front of their distillate burning pot-bellied stove, consuming coffee, cokes and "Rock Johnsons" (Buck Ferguson, roughneck deluxe who hailed from Mississippi and brought this family recipe).
